The world of Gold and Starlight

Introducing a picture book series starring my two quirky and lovable horses who are really more human than horse. Every day, they face challenges many children come up against and teach us through their actions and reactions how to be open, loving, and courageous in the face of life while also acknowledging and embracing what may sometimes seem like our flaws: our unique and special differences.

WINSTON, GOLDEN HEART

The series begins with a story well-suited for any young child seeking to belong. Winston, a beautiful Belgian with a heart of gold, is a very quiet horse who has an unknown rough past evidenced by his reactions to certain things. He is gentle but big and often misunderstood. Through patience, time, and understanding, he is reassured that his people and other horses will accept him for who he is. This book, in particular, would do well for children with developmental disabilities or assisting children who struggle with belonging.

SMALL MEANS BIG

The second in the series, this book introduces Winston’s brother, Atlas, a very precocious little quarter horse who thinks he is much bigger than he is. However, other horses, including his brother, remind him of how small he appears to be. But he realizes that with courage and love - and a little good-natured mischief - he can do anything, no matter his size.

UNLIKELY BROTHERS

This tale brings Atlas and Winston together for a simple yet impactful lesson in acceptance and getting along with differences. The two brothers could not be more different in size, appearance, and demeanor. Yet after a short time of challenging trials when they first meet, they find the goodness in one another and settle into a loving, although still rivalrous, relationship as brothers, partners in crime, and friends.
